Ahead of production for 2008's Iron Man, Marvel performed focus group research that shed light on Iron Man's awareness issues, especially among kids. One of the major takeaways of the studies was that children unfamiliar with the character were quick to dismiss him as a robot, but their interest skyrocketed if they were made aware that he is a person wearing armor.
